2011 Spring Gathering Focuses on Building Community
May 11, 2011 | by
Josh Speight Partnering and fellowship were among the main methods highlighted while developing the theme of “building community” during the 2011 Spring Gathering of the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship. Breakout workshops explored the theme in relation to Muslim neighbors, young preachers, other Baptists, and the wider church through the Kentucky Council of Churches.
The Kentucky Council of Churches (KCC) was featured in several ways. KCC Executive Director Marian Taylor was the featured preacher at both the Friday evening and Saturday worship services. Her sermons were calls to experience wider community through "holy envy" of other Christian traditions and "holy courage" to seek justice. In addition, at Council suggestion Sister Mary Schmuck led the workshop on advocacy in cooperation with the KCC. The KCC exhibit drew attention to the new clergy peer learning groups program called HHOPE.
